The Iberian Academy of Philosophy Doctoral

Doctoral Programs

The philosophy and poetry and religion of such a mankind are not worth the dust of a puffball. The hog that gets his living by rooting, stirring up the soil so, would be ashamed of such company. Henry David Thoreau exhorted us once. The doctoral programs of the Academy of Iberian Philosophy are aimed at educating outstanding, talented and exceptional scholars who are willing and able to devote their time and effort to altering such an erroneous course of the mankind. We strive to develop potent and active scholars who, along with thinking, teaching and theorizing in an academic environment, are also capable of doing, achieving and leading in real life.

An ideal candidate for a doctoral program of the Academy of Iberian Philosophy would be a scholar who is willing to investigate and pursue the truth in order to benefit students in an academic environment, and mankind in general, by means of teaching, lecturing and exhorting, and, most important, by leading a highly moral and exemplary life of an active citizen. Even though our doctoral programs are comprised of theoretical courses in different areas of philosophy, their ultimate aim is to mold the graduates of the Academy of Iberian Philosophy into enthusiastic, zestful and practical citizens who are fully resolved to benefit the mankind not only through abstract discussions regarding the overabundance of philosophical theories, but rather through a vigorous, concrete and actual effort. We have been true to our mission, ‑ developing future intellectual leaders for America and the world, ‑ as many of our doctoral program graduates have obtained top positions in premier American and European universities, as well as in public service and government offices in the United States and Europe.

The Academy of Iberian Philosophy is the oldest school of philosophy in the world, with rich European history which traces its roots all the way to Plato’s family and the country of Iberia. The Academy of Iberian Philosophy is very distinct from other graduate schools of philosophy, as here we place emphases on the Iberian credo, classical Neo-Platonist academic values and Christian Orthodox theology. We are the only graduate school nationally to offer the doctoral level studies in Georgianology.

Doctoral programs at the Academy of Iberian Philosophy are wide-ranging. We are dedicated to offering the subject of philosophy truly from the global and historical perspectives. However important Western philosophy may be, we offer highly concentrated courses beyond the European mindset and mode of thinking. We place major emphases on the pre-Indo-European ideologies, such as the Iberian, Mesopotamian and Hebrew philosophies, which have had major influences on the modern world. We also offer rigorous curricula in Christian Orthodox theology, Neo-Platonism, Roman (Trojan) philosophy, the Avesta, the Hitopadesha, American Humanism, Confucianism, Taoism, Davitianology and Rustvelologi.

Global Experience and Study Abroad

The Academy of Iberian Philosophy offers more than just the traditional online experience. It combines in-class seminars and examinations with online guidance. It provides our doctoral students with valuable extracurricular opportunities to exchange ideas with renowned philosophers, participate in moral debates, and attend the ESAP ‑ the European Study Abroad Program of Georgian International University which gives our students unique opportunities to study, as well as teach in Europe, and receive full certifications and dual degrees from premier European academic institutions. Attending the ESAP is not mandatory for most programs, but it is always highly recommended. This will allow our candidates to become closely acquainted with international academic and philosophical cultures, people and unique philosophies, traditions and viewpoints of different nations and civilizations.
